Mission Series: Eros

Amor In Caelos -- “Love Reaches into the Heavens”

ASRI’s Eros Mission Series will focus on how physics and flight dynamics of microgravity environments impact human sexual interaction. In ancient Greek myths, Eros was the male god of love, son of the goddess of love Aphrodite, and was often depicted as a winged figure who carried a magic bow (in Roman mythology, Eros was known as Cupid). Being struck by an arrow from Eros’ bow was said to fill a person with uncontrollable desire, causing them to fall deeply in love with whomever Eros chose. Eros himself fell madly in love with the beautiful mortal princess Psyche after being sent by Aphrodite to curse her, choosing instead to spirit her away to a hidden palace where he became her lover. Later, after passing trials set by Aphrodite, Psyche was made immortal by the king of the gods, Zeus, and Eros took her as his wife.
The Eros missions will be designed to study the practical mechanics of human copulation in space, and how the environmental extremes impact our physiological capabilities. Key aspects studied will include romantic interaction, human sexual response, and sexual function in microgravity conditions.
